Fire Engineering Research Group

Department of Civil Engineering / Boğaziçi University

Fire is a natural disaster that can be as hazardous as an earthquake on structures. Therefore, fire protection can be a large investment in any project due to the cost. Our research group offers consulting services in fire science, heat transfer, egress and fire performance of structures. We have been involved in preparing advanced fire strategy reports in large scale projects such as Central Bank of Republic of Turkey (TCMB) Tower (2021), İstanbul Airport Hangar (2020) and Erzincan Copler Gold Mining Plant (2016-2017). Combining theoretical knowledge in research with practical application, we can provide optimal, performance-based design to leading infrastructural projects in Turkey and aborad. Some of our references include:

Fire strategy and protection report for Central Bank of Republic of Turkey (TCMB) Tower in Istanbul (2021).

When completed, TCMB will be the tallest building in Europe with 75-floors (360m tall) composite concrete-steel building on 16.000 m2 site.

Commissioned by Limak Holding.

Istanbul Airport hangar construction phase performance analysis (2020).

Deflection and residual deformation check is completed for several large-scan truss systems in hangars while the construction phase is still ongoing.

Fire strategy and structural fire performance report on Anagold Mining Facilities in Erzincan (2016-2017).

Estimation of fire load and fire proofing requirements are defined for 35 industrial buildings including Process buildings, Electrical buildings, Maintenance buildings and Warehouse. For each structure, thermo-mechanical analysis is conducted to estimate the time of collapse for the required fire duration.
